Dr Aiden M. A. Thornton

Dr Aiden M. A. Thornton is a complexity leadership expert, management consultant, psychometrics entrepreneur, street epistemologist, and Board Director.

As a complexity leadership scholar, Aiden holds an interdisciplinary PhD in leadership, complexity, and cognition. He currently serves as Adjunct Associate Professor of Complexity Leadership at Swinburne University of Technology’s School of Business, Law and Entrepreneurship, and as Lead Complexity Scientist at Self-Stacked Systems, a global research collaborative focused on theoretical exposition, measurement, and applied research on the Model of Hierarchical Complexity.

As a management consultant, Aiden brings over 25 years of international experience across Australia, Asia, and Europe, working with top-tier consulting firms and blue-chip organisations. He has led large-scale, multi-million-dollar programs and now runs his own consulting practice specialising in leadership development, change management, organisational culture, and organisational design.

As an entrepreneur, Aiden has founded a psychometrics start-up developing an innovative suite of instruments designed to measure contemporary leadership capabilities such as sensemaking, systems thinking, truth discernment, and engagement with diverse worldviews. His broader mission is to strengthen the application of rigorous metrological approaches to the measurement of leaders and leadership.

As a street epistemologist, Aiden is deeply engaged in creating conditions for diverse groups to constructively explore controversial socio-political issues. His work focuses on examining what people believe, why they hold those beliefs, and the epistemological foundations that underpin them.

Aiden also hosts podcasts and blogs on leadership, complexity, truth, and epistemology. He serves on the Board of Directors of the Association of Change Management Professionals (ACMP) Australia and New Zealand.
