Erick Espinosa-Villatoro, Ph.D.
Battery Materials Consultant | SSRL & SLAC Research Affiliate
I help companies, startups, and research organizations solve complex battery materials challenges through advanced characterization, failure analysis, and degradation studies.
My expertise includes lithium-ion and next-generation batteries, with a focus on Ni-rich cathodes, lithium-metal and silicon anodes, interphase chemistry (SEI/CEI), transition-metal crossover, and cell aging mechanisms. I combine synchrotron-based techniques, mass spectrometry, and electrochemical diagnostics to provide actionable insights for R&D and product development.
In addition to my research affiliations with the Stanford Synchrotron Radiation Lightsource (SSRL) and the SLAC-Stanford Battery Center, I serve as a consultant for EXUM Instruments, supporting applications of LALI-TOF-MS for battery materials analysis and spatially resolved chemical characterization.
Book a short introductory call if you would like to discuss:
- Battery failure analysis and degradation mechanisms
- LALI-TOF-MS applications and data interpretation
- Advanced materials characterization strategies
- Battery R&D challenges and experimental design
- Industry-academic collaborations
- Technical due diligence and expert reviews
I look forward to learning about your project and exploring how I can help.
