Peter Makafan
I’m a senior software engineer with about 12 years in payments and financial technology. I’ve built card scheme integrations (Visa, Mastercard, Amex), worked across authorization, clearing, and settlement, and spent a lot of time inside ISO 8583 message formats. I also work extensively in .NET, distributed systems, and cloud-native backends.
I mentor engineers who want to break into fintech or go deeper on backend architecture, and I take on independent consulting for payments and backend systems.
Backend/Cloud-Native Mentorship: Introductory Call
For mid-level developers who want to design more reliable backend systems. We’ll look at where you are now, then cover areas like service boundaries, messaging, data modelling, and operating systems in production. Bring an architecture or code question and you’ll leave with a prioritized learning plan.
Financial Technology Mentorship: Introductory Call
For developers who want to work in payments or fintech, or who are already in it and want to understand how card transactions work end to end. We’ll talk through your background and goals, and I’ll give you a realistic picture of the domain: authorization, clearing, settlement, and scheme rules. Bring a concrete question or a system you’re working on, and you’ll leave with a clear next step.
Robotics Mentorship: Introductory Call
For students and engineers exploring robotics or applied AI. We’ll discuss your goals and current skills, and I’ll help you pick a focused starting path and a first project. Bring any questions about breaking into the field.
General Career Mentorship: Intro Call
For students, early-career starters, and professionals at any stage who want guidance on their next move. Whether you’re choosing a path, landing your first role, preparing for interviews, negotiating an offer, or considering a switch, we’ll talk through where you are and where you want to be, and I’ll give you honest, practical feedback. Bring one specific question or decision, and you’ll leave with a clear next step.
