Matt Gambell
Hi, I'm Matt! Game designer, programmer, and creator behind Game Dev Guide. I’ve been working with Unity and making games for over 10 years, with a focus on gameplay systems, tools, workflows, and practical problem-solving.
I also provide consulting and project guidance for developers looking for hands-on feedback, technical advice, or a fresh perspective on their game.
Game Dev Office Hours — 30 Minutes
A casual 30-minute call for hobbyists, aspiring developers, and anyone looking for general game development advice.
If you have questions about learning game development, starting or finishing a project, choosing tools, building your skills, working in the industry, or simply figuring out what to do next, this is a chance to talk it through with someone who’s been making games professionally for over 10 years.
This session is intended for general advice and discussion rather than detailed project reviews or technical troubleshooting.
Bring your questions and we’ll make the most of the time.
Game Dev / Unity Consultation - 60 Mins
A focused one-hour consultation for developers who want hands-on advice about their game, Unity project, or development workflow.
We can use the session to review technical problems, architecture, editor tooling, gameplay systems, optimisation, production challenges, or broader project decisions.
This is a good fit if you need more than a quick answer and want time to properly work through a problem together.
Please provide some context when booking, along with any relevant links, screenshots, videos, or documentation that would help me understand the project beforehand.
Game Testing & Design Feedback - 90 Mins
A longer session focused on playing, reviewing, and discussing your game.
You’ll send me a playable build, and we’ll use the session to work through my feedback live together — looking at areas such as gameplay, controls, pacing, readability, onboarding, game feel, design decisions, and the overall player experience.
The goal isn’t simply to tell you whether I like the game, but to help identify what is and isn’t working, where players may struggle, and where the experience could be improved.
This is best suited to prototypes, demos, vertical slices, or games already in active development.
Please provide a build and any useful context when booking. If there are specific areas you’d like me to focus on, let me know beforehand.
