Yadu Rajiv
I'm a game designer and developer who likes building things from scratch.
Over the last 20 years, I've worked across games, UX, creative technology and education, usually somewhere between designing and making. I've taken games from early prototypes through production, built interactive experiences and tools, taught game design and development, and helped build communities around making games.
I'm currently Chief Creative Officer at Second Quest, where we're building Model Trains, a creative sandbox about building miniature railways.
Previously, I led game design at PlaySimple Games, designed learning games for Osmo at BYJU'S, taught game design and development at Srishti, led UX work at redBus, and co-founded the indie studio Hashstash.
I still like being close to the work. I design systems and interactions, prototype, write code, and make small games and tools. I'm particularly interested in the messy 0→1 part of making something: taking an idea, figuring out what is interesting about it, and getting it into people's hands as quickly as possible.
A large part of my work has also been about the ecosystem around games. I co-founded Gamedev.in and the Build Your Own Game (BYOG) jam, serve on the Board of Directors of Global Game Jam, and am part of the Governing Council of the Game Developer Association of India. Over the years I've organised jams, taught, mentored, spoken at conferences, and helped create spaces for people to make games.
I also write about games and am the author of Developing Turn-Based Multiplayer Games with GameMaker Studio 2 and NodeJS.
I'm interested in games as a medium, the craft of making them, and in finding new ways for more people to make interesting things with them.
