Calligrapher • Teacher • Author

When I’m not working on my own art projects, I teach and mentor calligraphers and lettering artists looking to take their next steps. Through my mentorships, classes, and books, I’ve helped thousands of artists get better at what they love to do and make it work as a business!

I’ve had the pleasure of working with clients including Google Arts & Culture, Michael Kors, Martha Stewart, Lonely Planet, and Fendi. My work has been featured in such publications as The Guardian, The Wall Street Journal, Martha Stewart Weddings, Los Angeles Times, and Buzzfeed.

Procreate Calligraphy Lesson for Any Skill Level

Whether you’re taking your first steps in Procreate calligraphy or you’re ready to take your iPad lettering to the next level, virtual tutoring is a great way to master key skills and enrich your creative toolkit. No matter where you are in your digital calligraphy journey – beginner or advanced – I would love to help you!

I’ve been a successful freelance calligrapher since 2009, designing custom lettering for brands and individuals around the world and educational resources for other artists. I particularly love to teach, and my true passion is helping other lettering artists hone their skills, opening doors to new creative opportunities and careers.

In our 60-minute virtual lesson, I can help you:

• master beginner-level calligraphy skills on the iPad like pen pressure, grip, and arm movement

• polish intermediate to advanced script techniques, like flourishing, letter connections, and uppercase letterforms

• cover basic and advanced troubleshooting (e.g. pen pressure improvements, Procreate techniques)

• gain confidence using a whole range of digital lettering techniques, from choosing the right Procreate brush to designing for print

FAQs

— I’m a total beginner. Can I start learning calligraphy from scratch?

Yes. Absolutely no previous calligraphy experience is required to start private lessons with me. I’ll get you starting by covering all the basics of digital script calligraphy, starting with how to hold the pen (or in this case, the Apple Pencil)!

— What tools do I need for the lesson?

You will need an iPad with the Procreate app installed, an Apple Pencil, and a separate device (not your iPad) with a webcam for our video call.

— Will I be able to see your iPad screen in the video lesson?

Yes! I use a two-camera setup that will display my face and my iPad screen.

— Should I film my iPad in the video lesson so you can see me work?

This is optional but it would greatly help if you have questions that will require me to see your work. But don’t worry – you don’t need any fancy technology for this! You can dial into the call on a mobile phone and position it over your iPad, or dial in from your computer using a portable webcam positioned over your desk.
